Meet The Ballare Dance Centre Family:

Kelly Hodge –

Owner/ Director

For those of you that are new and may not know me, my name is Kelly Hodge, and I am the owner and director of Ballare Dance Centre. Dance has been a passion and a part of my life since I was 4 years old. Growing up I studied many forms of dance such as tap, ballet, jazz, and lyrical. I was 16 years old when I began teaching tap classes, and have been teaching dance for the past 19 years. Throughout middle school and high school I was a member of a competition team that was ranked one of California’s best as well as nationally. I competed with a large team and also did my own choreographed solos. After high school I went to San Francisco State University to further my dancing career, before graduating from San Jose State University with a degree in business management. I learned very early that my calling as a dancer was to share my love and passion for dance with others through teaching. I decided to open the Ballare Dance Centre in 2007 to share my passion with each and every one of my dancers. I want to make dancing fun for your dancer, as well as give them an outlet to express themselves through movement. As we have successfully celebrated Ballare Dance Centre’s 10th anniversary, I look forward to seeing returning dancers as well as welcome new dancers into our dance studio and family. In February 2013 my husband Tim and I welcomed our son Joey in to the world and our family. He enjoys visiting the studio and loves all the attention he gets from the dancers. I want to personally thank you for coming to Ballare Dance Centre and making it your home!

Jennifer Palmer –

Staff Member/ Competition Team Co-Director

In 2009 Ballare Dance Centre welcomed Miss Jennifer Hayden to our staff. We are very happy to have her back as a part of our Ballare family. Miss Jenn has a 7 year-old son Mark we all get excited to see around the dance studio. Miss Jenn has been a friend of mine for many years and comes from a very large dance background. She has studied jazz, tap, ballet, hip hop and lyrical. She danced competitively and received top honors for her group and solo work. After graduating from high school, Jenn studied choreography at De Anza College and became a “De Anza Dancer.” It was shortly after leaving De Anza that she dove head first into teaching and performing. She has taught at various dance studios throughout the Bay Area, instructing dancers of all ages. She has also had the opportunity to perform at very exciting events such as the 2005 Emerald Bowl in San Francisco, the 2005 Miss Fitness America pageant in Hollywood, as well as many community events and concerts throughout the U.S. Miss Jenn has been a member of 2 professional dance companies, one being the Fashionate Rhythm Dance Company. She has also had the privilege to cheer and dance professionally for the San Jose Sabercats Arena Football team, the Golden State Warriors Basketball Team, and as an Inferno Dancer for the San Francisco Dragons Major League Lacrosse Team. This year Miss Jenn will be teaching hip hop, lyrical and jazz in the 2017-2018 dance year.

You can log in at your convenience through the emailed invoice and view / pay monthly invoices, costume invoices and any other invoices that your dancer might have. You do not have to pay online, you can also pay with cash or check if you would like, Ballare Dance Centre will accept both. This program offers many great feature for both Ballare dance families and staff.

Hassle FREE – Auto Payment:

Ballare Dance Centre offers a monthly auto payment option for your convenience. Dance parents will need to complete an auto payment form, which can be found in the Ballare office area. This form authorizes Ballare Dance Centre to automatically charge these monthly charges. You are also able to choose other items such as costumes and recital fee to automatically be charged to your credit card on file. When an auto payment is charged to your card a receipt will be emailed to you for your records.

Tuition is due in full on the first of each month.

Monthly Tuition applies between the months of September – June. During the summer dance session tuition for the 5 week dance session is due in full at the beginning of the summer session.

Throughout the dance year there will be some months where we are only dancing for 3 weeks due to holidays, while there will be other months where we will dance for 5 weeks out of the month. In any situation dance tuition will not be prorated. I will ONLY pro-rate June’s tuition. There will not be any other exceptions!

***Ballare Dance Centre accepts Cash, Check, Visa, Master Card, Discover and American Express***

Ballare Dance Centre will still accept checks at the dance studio, please not if you are one month behind in your tuition you will be required to place a credit card on file for auto payment processing.

A $25.00 fee will be charged for monthly tuition that is late, returned checks or declined credit card transactions.

**Parents Please Note On Your Checks In The Memo Area What That Particular Check Is For. Ex: May Tuition, Costumes, Recital Fee. This Will Ensure That Your Payment Is Being Applied To The Proper Invoice**

Paying tuition and other fees with CASH:

Parents if you choose to pay cash for your dancers tuition and other dance related fees you are welcome to do so. If you choose to pay with cash the amount given to staff will be counted and you will be asked to initial a payment sheet as well as a receipt at the time of your payment. If at any time there is a discrepancy and or issue you will no longer be allowed to pay in cash and a check or credit card will be required for all further payments.

Dress Code:

Ballare Dance Centre has a dress code for each dance class and it will be enforced. Your dancer is required to come to dance with her hair in a bun or pony tail and in the proper dance clothing for the style of dance they are taking. **Please find attached a more detailed description regarding Ballare Dance Centre’s Dress Code.**

Dancer Cubbies:

To help clear up all the dance bag clutter that occurs in the waiting area Ballare Dance Centre has dance bag storage cubbies. These cubbies are located just inside the door of the dance studio. These cubbies are for dancers to put all of his/her belongings that they bring with them to dance class. Items such as dance bags, shoes and water bottles will fit in our new organization cubbies. After each class I ask that dancers please take home all the items they had in their cubbie during class.

Scholarship Program:

In 2012 Ballare Dance Centre began a scholarship program to help those families that are in need with tuition assistance. The scholarship program does not pay your entire tuition but instead is there to help bring your tuition payment to an amount your family can afford. In order to apply for this scholarship program you must be a currently enrolled dancer and have danced at Ballare Dance Centre for at minimum of (1) entire dance year. If you would like to apply for the scholarship program please email Miss Kelly asking for a scholarship application. Once the application is complete and returned it will then be forwarded to our scholarship committee for review. A decided assistance amount will be agreed upon and you will receive the application back with the amount of scholarship you will be receiving monthly. We will do the best we can to help all of the dancers that are in need.

Can I Stay And Watch My Dancer’s Dance Class?

Ballare Dance Centre is a place where my staff and I teach and share dance with your dancer. I ask that you please respect your dancer’s time to learn. You are welcome to relax in the office/ waiting area during your dancer’s class. I understand that as parents you love to watch your dancer, but we have found over the years that dancers respond better to teachers and the dance techniques when parents wait outside of the dance studio. There are many places to sit in our waiting area and from almost all the seats you can see into the dance studio allowing you to observe parts of the class. There are a few exceptions below (**) to the above request. For those parents who stay during your dancer’s class, please be aware of your dancer’s behavior. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

**If your dancer is becoming a distraction in his/her dance class and preventing the teacher from productively teaching the other dancers, your dancer will be asked to sit down and not participate.

He/she can join back in the class once proper dance behavior is being displayed. Parents, at this point should behavior become a weekly issue, we will need to work together to have a good dance class for your dancer. If progress is not being displayed, the dancer will no longer be able to participate in the class for the duration of the year.**

**Should your dancer have an off day, as we all do, from time to time it is acceptable to sit and watch a dance class. Should your dancer begin to cry and become inconsolable, not wanting to participate, my staff and I ask that you take your dancer home and hope that the next week he/she will be feeling better and ready to dance. A crying child is a distraction as well as it makes for an uncomfortable atmosphere for all those parents in the waiting area.**

The Waiting Area:

Ballare Dance Centre has a waiting area for parents to wait while your dancer is dancing. This area is also used for other dancers to wait for their dance class to begin. If you are dropping your dancer off for his/her dance class please drop them off no earlier than 10 minutes prior to the start of their dance class. Please DO NOT leave your young dancers unattended.

Parents: Please enjoy your time to get to know other dance families while you wait but please remember to keep your voices at an inside level as not to distract the dancers.

Dancers: When you are waiting for your class please come in and sit nicely while you wait for your class. Please respect the class that is already in session and place all of your dance items neatly against the wall.

Toys: Ballare Dance Centre does have a toy basket as well as a book/ coloring book basket to help keep waiting siblings entertained. These baskets will remain in the waiting area for all to play with. I ask that parents please have your dancer or child clean up the area of toys before leaving the dance studio.

Ballare Dance Centre Will Provide The Water …

In our efforts to reduce the number of cups being used during dance classes, Ballare Dance Centre no longer provides water cups and all dancers need to bring their own water bottles to dance class. Ballare Dance Centre will continue to provide water for all dancers and families to have access to during class.

The Parking Lot:

I would like to ask all parents to please use extra caution when pulling in and out of the dance studio driveway. The landlord at Ballare Dance Centre has addressed the safety of the parking lot area with all other tenants and their customers as to protect our dancers but, I ask that my dance families still use extra caution. Please also keep an eye on your dancer and other children not allowing them to run in and out of the dance studio into the parking lot area. Please make sure to only use the parking stalls in front of the studio door as well as street parking when dropping off and picking up your dancer. Please do not parking in the neighboring business parking lots.

What happens during the dance year?

During the months, September thru January my teachers and I will be using our weekly dance classes to teach the style and technique of a particular dance genre in the class you have enrolled in. Dancers will learn weekly different terminology, dance steps and combinations.

During the month of October dancers will begin learning and rehearsing routines for our holiday performance at the Pruneyard in Campbell. This is not a mandatory event but all dancers 5 years old and up that participate all have a great time. There is a small participation fee to cover costume cost.

During the months, January thru May dancers will use the steps and combinations learned in the previous months to learn and memorize a dance which will be performed at our annual dance recital. During the month of January each class will be choosing a costume which parents will be asked to purchase for their dancer to wear in the annual dance recital.

*Costume Money is DUE the first week of March

*Recital Fee Money is DUE the first week of May

During the month of May dancers will be working on polishing the dances that they will be performing. Your dancer, my staff and I will work to make their dances absolutely wonderful.

When Does New Dancer Enrollment Close?

Ballare Dance Centre will accept new dancers from September thru the 2nd week of January. After the 2nd week in January no new dancers will be accepted. This is due to the preparations that are being made for our annual dance recital, costumes and recital dances.

When Is The Dance Recital?

Ballare Dance Centre will hold its 11th annual dance recital will be held Saturday, June 9th and Sunday, June 10th.

**Parents, Please reserve the weekend of June 9th – 10th on your calendars to ensure your dancer will be available to participate in both shows. Show times TBD**

Why Do We Have A Dance Recital?

The annual dance recital gives your dancer a chance to perform each of the dances that they have been working on for the past few months for family and friends. This is your dancer’s true time to shine! Participation in the annual recital is NOT mandatory.

Why Are There (2) Performances?

Due to the annual growth of Ballare Dance Centre we increasingly have a growing number of audience members that want to attend our performances. In 2013 we starting performing (2) dance recitals to accommodate all of the friends and family that wanted to see our show. Again in 2016 we will be having (2) performances. Our first performance is going to be a later Saturday afternoon performance, 3:00 and our second performance will be at 12:30 Sunday afternoon. Each performance will be the same, so whichever performance your guests attend, all dances will be performed. Dancers are asked to be available to participate in both performances.

Participating In The Dance Recital Is A Commitment:

Parents will be asked to sign a recital contract in late December early January. At this time you are asked to read all of the recital guidelines and commit to all recital dates, rehearsals as well as fees. By signing this contract you are expected to purchase all recital costumes needed, dance shoes, tights and any other needed items as well as be at all dance rehearsals as well as are expected to be available and participate in entirety for both recital performances. This is a commitment you are making to your dance class and to Ballare Dance Centre.

Recital Costumes:

My staff and I work very hard when choosing costumes for our dance recital to make sure that they are age appropriate, are of good quality, fit well with the song your dancer is dancing to, fits the style of dance and are not exceedingly expensive. My staff and I work with many costume companies to find all of the above items. For each class that your dancer takes we work very hard not to exceed a $65.00 per costume cost. There are times when the costume cost is less than our $65.00 limit and other times, it may be slightly above. Your dancer will also need a finale costume for the dance recital. The finale costume is a pair of colored shorts and a recital specific finale shirt/ tank top. This finale outfit is pre-set at $35.00.
